Joan E Maguire

  Joan E. Maguire, a lifelong resident of the Lake View neighborhood of Worcester, passed away surrounded by her family, Sunday, December, 10th 2023, three days prior than her 68th birthday on the 13th after a lifelong series of health challenges.

  Joan was born on December 13, 1955, one of six children of Robert D. and Jane A. (Coomey) Maguire.  She grew up in a loving family, graduated from North High School, class of 1973, and Salter Secretarial School.  She began her working career with Guaranty Bank, then accepted a position in the registration office of the Umass Memorial Hospital where she worked for over 22 years before retiring in 2012.  Joan has lived in the family home her entire life.

   Joan is survived by her siblings who dearly loved her and constantly watched over her making sure she was ok; her sister, Katherine E. Krikorian of Southbridge, brothers, Patrick J. Maguire and his wife Gail of Dudley, Michael F. Maguire and his wife Betty of Hopedale, Dennis R. Maguire and his wife Carol of Shrewsbury, and her sister, Mary J. Maguire of Rutland; nieces and nephews, Keith and Katelyn Krikorian, Victoria and Matthew Maguire; 2 great nieces, Kayla and Leah Shepherd; extended family and friends.

   Joan was a member of St Anne’s church and a former member of St Margaret Mary Church.  Once St Margaret Mary closed, she would walk to church from her home to St Annes for mass, when rides were not available.  Devoted to her Irish heritage, Joan was all things Ireland,  she made several trips to Ireland, listened to Irish music in her home especially the Irish tenors.  Joan loved travel, reading, watching soap operas, trips to the casino, and was an avid Red Sox fan, knowledgeable on all stats, players and things Red Sox. Although stubborn by nature she loved to laugh and had a huge heart, with an outpouring of generosity willing to help everyone anytime. 

   Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Thursday, December 14th from 4 pm to 6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.  Her funeral will be held Friday, December 15th with a procession to St Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd Shrewsbury where her funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am.   Burial will follow in St John Cemetery.
