Joann Benoit

Joann (Martocci) Benoit, 79 of Worcester, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa M. Rizzuti and her husband David of N. Grosvenordale, CT, her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Martocci of Thompson, CT, five beloved grandchildren, Jon “J.C.” Gallivan, Jr., Dominic C. and Rosalea M. Rizzuti, Olivia A. and Sophia L Martocci, a brother, John Martin of Florida; nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Anthony D. Martocci and a brother, Peter Martin 

Joann was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Alfred and Lea Marie (Montana) Martocci.  She graduated from Commerce High School. She married and moved to Auburn with her husband Herbert Nelson where they raised their family. Joann worked in the service industry most of her life with many years at Regatta Deli.  She retired from Babcock Power around 2003. 

Joann loved cooking and is famous with her grandchildren for her sauce. She loved her German Shepherds, having many over the years.  Spending time with her friends and family was something she loved, especially for Sunday dinners. She also loved spending time and laughing with her grandchildren.

Joann spent her earlier years vacationing with friends in Eastover, Ma. She later enjoyed boating with her second husband, James “Binky” Benoit, in Point Judith, RI.  Being on the boat were some of her most cherished times. 

Joann will be greatly missed by her friends and family, but especially by her daughter.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Thursday, July 6th from 4-6 pm with her funeral service immediately following at 6:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.  Burial will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: German Shepherd Rescue of New England, Inc.
