John J. Chojnicki, 95 of Worcester, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, with loved ones gathered at his side.
John is leaving behind devoted and caring children, his son, Steven and daughter, Anne to mourn his passing. He also leaves his dear close friends Reverend Thaddeus Stachura, Thomas Stachura, Mark Gentile and Veronica Rosario. John is predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Julia (Waraszkiewicz) Chojnicki; his older and younger brothers, Julius and Benjamin Chojnicki and an infant sister, Rita Chojnicki. John was born in East Millbury, MA to parents Michael and Mary (Jurasewicz) Chojnicki.
On the 5th day of May 1943, the 248th Engineer Combat Battalion was activated to duty by the United States Army. After weeks of basic and specialist training, five months of maneuvers and the completion of a special task force, it was then on stage to fight the Battle of Europe and assigned to the 3rd Corps, US Army under the command of General George S. Patton, Jr. John served in Company “A” and fought in Normandy on D-Day, Northern France, the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Central Europe, all major battles. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, John worked in the home building industry; he founded and served as its president the first Empire Construction Company, and then for various building product companies.
John was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, the Polish American Veterans of WWII, the American Legion Sturbridge Post 109 - Fiskdale, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester, MA. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
