John C. Demers, Sr., 83, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Saint Vincent Hospital.
John is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Marguerite J. (Lantagne) Demers; their son, John C. Demers, Jr. and his wife, Victoria of Grafton; three grandchildren, Sarah, Danielle, and Ryan; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Rylie. He is also survived by five brothers, Leo Demers and his wife Doris in FL, Ferdinand Demers and his wife Alberta in OH, Albert Demers and his wife Lindell in NH, Raymond Demers and his wife Sharon in CT, and George Demers in NH; two sisters, Mary Nault in CT, and Helen Kinsella and her husband Joseph in FL; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Richard Demers and Jeannine Haney. John was born in Newport, VT, son of the late J. George and Frances (Bussier) Demers. He grew up in Vermont and New Hampshire, later serving his nation proudly in the United States Air Force, where he served overseas as a fire fighter. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
After John met the love of his life, they married and lived in Connecticut for many years, settling in New Fairfield, before moving to Worcester in 1998. John worked for many years with Grand Union Supermarkets in Connecticut, retiring as Meat Department Manager for the chain. He was a fan of all Boston sports teams and enjoyed playing Keno and visiting casinos. His passion was his family and his home, he spent countless hours tending to his family, his yard and his gardens; nurturing them all with love and devotion.
Calling Hours for John will be held on Wednesday morning, September 5, from 9 a.m. until his Funeral Service begins at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Following cremation, disposition services will be held privately.
