John R. Goodney

John R. Goodney, “Jack”, 86 of Auburn, died Friday night, February,25, 2022 at Saint Vincent’s Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Worcester, April 10, 1935, to the late Theodore and Amelia Goodney.  He attended Freeland St. School and graduated from Boys Trade, voted “best carpenter in the class”.  He enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in North Carolina.  He returned to Worcester before moving to Auburn in 1967.

He was a union carpenter for a few years, and then became a self-employed carpenter until he retired. He was known for his quickness, but the quality of his work earned him an article in “Better Homes & Gardens.

Jack was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing Basketball, Bowling, Tennis, Pool, Golf, and Softball. He was a pitcher in the Jack Benny Softball League and won the MVP in the Jack Benny World Series in Florida.  Born with the “gift of gab” he loved to talk sports and was a huge fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and the other Boston Teams.  He enjoyed camping with family and friends, playing cards, trips to the beach, golfing in New Hampshire and winters in Florida.  He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He had a great sense of humor and was very quick-witted.

He was predeceased by his sister Dorlis, in 1962.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Beverly (LaMere) Goodney, of Auburn; his son, Mark Goodney, of Worcester; daughters: Traci Trudell of Spencer, Kelly Goodney-Germain of Webster, and Lee Goodney of Auburn; four Grandchildren: Aly, Olivia, Lexi, and Michael, and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers: Robert E. Goodney of Holden and Theodore R. Goodney of Florida.

The family would like to thank his nurse Maria at Life Care Center of Auburn, for her kind and tender care.
