Boylston

John “Jack” Barrell 93 of 16 Perry Rd, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at Christopher House of Worcester.

Jack was born on January 21, 1931, the third child of Amos and Mary Barrell, and lived most of his life on Coburn Ave in Worcester. Jack is predeceased by His mother and father and his brothers Howard of Spencer and Robert of Shrewsbury.

He graduated from Commerce High School in 1950 and enlisted in the Army where he fought in the Korean War. Jack was proud of his military service and would often share stories of his time in the Army and in Korea with his family. We all thank Jack for his service to our Country.

After returning to Worcester, Jack Married Beverly (Lambe) Barrell where they shared 67 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife and four children, Debra (Barrell) MacLeod of Shrewsbury and her longtime companion Mike Shammas, Cynthia (Barrell) Roy of Boylston and her husband Craig with whom he resided; John Barrell Jr of Spencer and his wife Pamela, and Daniel Barrell of Auburn and his wife Jacqueline; seven grandchildren, Michael MacLeod, Jennifer Roy, Jamie Hawley and her husband Ryan, Corey Roy and his wife Gina, Samantha Barrell, Jessica Barrell and Andrea Mercado; five great grandchildren, Benjamin, Austin, Jayden, Camden and Vianna. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Jack was employed with Massachusetts Electric Company for 36 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement, Jack and Beverly spent winters in Florida. He was an avid golfer where over his golfing career he made 13 hole-in-ones. Jack and Beverly were members of the former Clearview Country Club and Pine Ridge Country Club where they enjoyed time with their friends golfing and socializing. Jack loved his family, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially at summer cookouts. We could not have asked for a more loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be sorely missed by all.

The Family would like to thank staff at Christopher House in Worcester for the outstanding care they provided to Jack while he lived there.

Services for Jack will be held on Thursday, November 21, with calling hours from 9 am until 10:30 am in MERCADANTE FUNNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St, Worcester, followed by a procession to his Funeral Mass which will be at 11 am in Saint Mary of The Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston.
