John Medbury, husband of Linda Cavaioli, died on September 21, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
John was born January 16, 1950, in Cazenovia, New York and was one of seven children. Throughout his life, John was devoted to the Boys Scouts and was ultimately elected to be a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He graduated from Cazenovia High School and then he entered the US Navy served as Petty Officer 2nd Class Storekeeper, from 1971 to 1975 and was honorably discharged. He then earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Denver University. Continuing his education, he earned a Master of Science in Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
John was a professional firm manager for his entire career, culminating in a 13 year-long tenure as Director of Administration for the Bowditch & Dewey Law Firm in Worcester. He was also a Professor of Law Office Management at Anna Maria College in Paxton.
He was deeply involved in the Worcester community where he lived for the past 38 years. It was there that he met and married his wife of 35 years, Linda Cavaioli. He was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Vincent’s Hospital and served as Chair of the Board. He was a volunteer for the Alliance for Education, the United way of Central MA and other organizations. John received the Great Guys Award from YWCA Central MA for Domestic Violence Activism. He and Linda together were awarded the Alexis de Tocqueville Award from the United Way of Central MA in 2011.
John came from a large immediate and extended family in upstate New York and nurtured an enormous family of his own, with 17 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of other family members. He was very active as a professional and member of the Worcester community. In the midst of these many commitments and challenges he always remained calm, pleasant and wise. He supported and encouraged so many around him.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by his daughter Kyla (husband Shane Davis), his son Evan (wife Missy), his daughter Jennifer (husband Anthony Fields) and his sons Paul and Benjamin, as well as ten grandchildren: Cyrena, Tyler, Lissette, Emily, Aidan, Savannah, Joshua, Anthony, Abigail, and Avery; and two great-grandchildren, Liam, and Declan. John is also survived by his sisters Margaret Waldeck, Susan Escobedo-Villaluazo, Ruth Medbury, Anne Barrows and Jeanne Medbury. John was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Mary Ellen Medbury and his brother Charles Medbury.
There will be a wake at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 4-7 PM, and a Funeral Mass at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 935 Main Street, Worcester, MA on Friday, September 29 at 11AM.
