John F. Montonari, 86 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Worcester, a son of the late Giovanni and Mary (Patti) Montonari. John served his country proudly in the United States Navy in the Korean War where he was the proud recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. John worked as a general foreman for the City of Worcester Street Department for many years before retiring. John lived a full, happy and successful life. He had a heart of gold and was always taking care of his family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed going to the gym, shopping in the grocery store, watching Sunday football and maintaining his home. John was deeply loved by everyone around him and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
John’s wife of 58 years, Antoinette M. (Papagni) Montonari passed away on January 22, 2017. He is survived by his son, Anthony Montonari and his wife Kelley of Shrewsbury with whom he lived; four grandchildren, Erica George, Taylor Cullen and her husband Timothy, Anthony Montonari, Jr. and John Michael Montonari; three great grandchildren, Gina, Zachary and Timothy Jr.; nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, John Montonari, his daughter, Gina George and several siblings.
John’s family would like to extend their gratitude to all the “Angels” at Brookhaven Hospice in Westborough for the outstanding care and compassion.
A period of calling hours for John will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 from 5-7 pm immediately followed by his funeral service at 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester.
