John J Ursoleo of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 15, 2021 at the age of 97. John was born on February 16, 1924, one of five children to Italian immigrants Damiano and Antoinette (Basile) Ursoleo. His dear wife of 68 years, Sarah E. (D”Angona) Ursoleo passed away on August 14, 2015. John is survived by his five children Eugene P. Ursoleo and his wife Pamela of Ventura California, R. John Ursoleo and his wife Chelsea of Los Osos California, Judy A. Newhart of Tuscon Arizona, Michael J. Ursoleo and his fiancée Patrice Kallanian of Worcester and Loretta L. Ursoleo of DC of Venice Florida. He is also survived by his siter Norma Gregson of Santa Barbara California. The family would also like to thank a special caregiver, Ann Marie Morrissey of Spencer.
John graduated from Fitchburg State College in 1974, where he majored in Vocational Education. He retired in 1985 after 23 years as a Machine Technology Instructor at Marlborough Vocational High School and Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. Prior to his teaching career, John was employed as a machinist and then as a tool and die maker at several local industries. He was an active member of the American Vocational Association and former President of the Central Chapter of the Massachusetts Vocational Association. An Army Veteran of WWII, John served in Europe as a member of the 87th Infantry Division.
After retiring, John and his wife Sarah spent 22 winters in Fort Myers, Florida, where he played golf and the accordion with other retired musicians. In 2008, John and Sarah decided to move to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for several years before retuning to Worcester to be closer to home. When their traveling days ended, he joined the Greendale Retired Men’s Club and was active in their golf league until 2012.
A memorial Mass will be held for John at a later date. There are no calling hours.
