Josephine E. Douglas

Josephine Douglas, 62 of Fitchburg formerly of New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020 at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge.

Josephine was born in Neptune, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Everett Douglas and Pauline Douglas Lyons. She graduated from Asbury Park High School and later earned an associate degree at Brookdale Community College. Josephine worked as a home health aide and personal care assistant for various residential facilities over her career.

Josephine is survived by her husband, Roberto Ayala; two sons, Edward “Sean” Burroughs of Worcester and Roberto Jadus Ayala of Fitchburg; four daughters, Talaya Ayala of Long Beach, CA., Amanda Milano of Old Bridge, NJ., Celestina Douglas of Fitchburg and Carmen Ayala of Gardner; a brother, Daniel Douglas of Virginia; four sisters, Mae Owens of Neptune, NJ., Lornell Cunningham of Asbury Park, NJ., Constance Johnson of Philadelphia, PA., and Janice Douglas of Rensselaer, NY.; Brother-in-law Samuel Cunningham; thirteen grandchildren, Zavier Burroughs, Najib Burroughs, Amiyah Burroughs and Khiana Burroughs, Shaday Wells and Carmella Castillo, Deja Postell, Zauria Postell and Iyana Milano, Laniya Martinez, Brody McDonough and Marcus Still, Analeia Ayala and one grandchild on the way; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by two brothers, Nathaniel Person and Notre Person.

Services for Josephine will be held privately and at a later date. Josephine will return home to New Jersey where she will be laid to rest with her mother. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
