Josephine M. (“Jo”) Galli, 96, a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022, after a recent decline in health, recently celebrating her 96th birthday on November 16th.
Josephine was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late, Albert B. and Delia M. (Nicoletti) Galli. She was raised, grew up and lived most of her life on her beloved Shrewsbury and Lyon Street neighborhood. For a time, Josephine lived in Lincoln Village and most recently the past few years at the Jewish Healthcare.
Josephine was a dear Godmother and Aunt to her nephew, William A. Fiore, Aunt to Robert J. Fiore and niece Diane M. Fiore; She is also survived by extended family members. Josephine was predeceased by a brother, Albert J.(“Sonny”) Galli in 2000, and two sisters, Theresa A. (“Terri”) Galli in 2014 and Emilie G. (“Em”) Fiore in 2019. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Throughout her working career, Josephine worked for as a stitcher for Worcester Felt Pad Company, and as a school bus monitor for the Worcester Public Schools. For a good portion of her life, she was a part of the Worcester State Hospital, housekeeping department.
Josephine along with her family, loved animals, and had many cherished pets throughout her life. She loved spending time and holidays with family and friends and decorating her homes. She was always appreciative of the help her sister Emile, and family gave her over the years when she needed it.
Josephine was an enthusiastic sports fan, her favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox and then the New England Patriots, always watching the games on TV. Her hobbies included embroidery, reading newspapers, and magazines and watching game shows and soap operas on television. She notably was able to recite all the 50 states in alphabetical order every morning to everyone’s amazement, proving to herself her mind was still sharp.
Josephine was a deeply religious person, who was a life member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church on Shrewsbury Street. She is finally at home with the loved ones she always talked about and missed so much. The family would like to thank the entire 3rd floor staff of the J.H.C. caregivers especially Amanda, Jessica and Michelle , and all others who would provide us weekly facetime sessions with her during the COVID restrictions.
A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, February 17th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME and CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. followed by a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am. She will rejoin her parents, brother, and sisters in St John’s Cemetery.
