Joyce Marie (Fraioli) Akman, 68, of Shrewsbury, a person, loved by all, passed away surrounded by the family she cherished, Monday, August 26, 2024 after a long period of health challenges.
Joyce was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Worcester Police officer, Anthony and Anna (Battista) Fraioli. She grew up in the Italian neighborhood on Mulberry Street, graduated from North High School, Class of 1974. In 1980, Joyce married, John Akman, and began a life of love, faith and family in Worcester and Shrewsbury. Joyce was a teacher’s Aide in the Worcester School System at Burncoat High School for over 15 years before retiring.
Joyce is survived by her devoted husband, John; two children she cherished and was so proud of, David A. Akman and his wife Marie of Jefferson, Stephanie M. Bucharelli and her husband Devon of Dudley; three grandchildren she adored who lovingly called her Nonnie, Zoey, Emma and Tobias; a brother, Ret State Police Detective, John Fraioli and his wife Michelina, sister, Beverly Fraioli and her husband Jeffrey Klashka; Nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in law, extended family and friends.
Joyce was a member and dedicated volunteer of St Mary’s Syriac Orthodox Church in Shrewsbury. She loved to travel, attend music concerts, the beach, dancing, and dining with family and friends. She was a dedicated wife, mother and Nonnie who had a beautiful smile and was especially happy to care for her family.
Friends and relatives are invited to gather Friday, August 30th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St Worcester and again on Saturday, Morning from 10 am to 10:45 am followed by her funeral service in St Mary’s Syriac Orthodox Church, 1 Industrial Drive Shrewsbury. Entombment will follow in St John Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name can be made to St Mary Syriac Church, 1 industrial Drive Shrewsbury.
