Juliann “Julie” F. (Markey) Hathaway, 63, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Juliann is survived by a son, Jonathan R. Hathaway; two daughters, Katilyn M. Markey and Kerriann E. Hathaway, all of Worcester; a brother, John P. Markey, Jr. of Leicester; a sister, Kathleen M. Markey of Worcester; four grandchildren, Serenidey Hathaway, Ava Hathaway, Lincoln Kephart, and Ivy Kephart; a godson, Matthew Markey; and a niece, Seanna Markey; her former husband and father of her children, Roosevelt Hathaway. A cherished friend of many years, May Boykin. Juliann was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, John P. and Beverly Ann (King) Markey, and has lived here all her life.
She graduated from South High School in 1979 and later from the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1984.
Julie worked as a medical assistant at UMass Memorial starting in 1993, in 2002 she transferred to Central Mass Ob/Gyn and continued working. She connected on a personal level with all her patients and co-workers and formed many relationships over the years. She was an avid reader, she loved Hallmark movies, she accumulated many different recipes from facebook and she held onto every memory and hand drawn picture. She loved shopping on amazon and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a die-hard Red Sox’s fan, in her younger years she enjoyed playing golf and yearly trips to Hampton Beach. She undyingly supported her kids and grandkids from the sidelines of all their sporting events and academic achievements. Julie was radiant, optimist, thoughtful, resilient, open minded, supportive, selfless, dedicated and compassionate. She loved her family passionately and was an effervescent Nannie. She will truly be missed by all.
Julie found fulfillment in volunteering her time for Worcester Cares, numerous food banks in the city, handing out care packages to the less fortunate, and she made frequent donations to the Friendly house. She participated in events and walks to raise funds for organizations she held close to her heart.
Calling Hours will be on Saturday, March 8, from 10 am until 11 am in church, followed immediately by her Funeral Mass at 11 am in Our Lady of Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Worcester County Food Bank.
