Kathleen (Haven) Leto

December 21, 1943 — January 27, 2022

Mrs. Kathleen A. (Haven) Leto, age 78, a lifetime Worcester resident passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 27th at Christopher House.

Kathy was born in Worcester to George B. and Helen I. Haven. A devoted parishioner of Saint Stephen’s church and active alum of Saint Stephen’s Elementary and High School, Kathy then earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from Worcester State College. Mrs. Leto taught in the Worcester School system at Grafton Street, Union Hill, and Gates Lane Elementary Schools for 35 years, molding the lives of countless Worcester children until retiring in July 2001.

Kathy was predeceased by her husband of 34 years Tony in 2004; She  leaves her beloved daughter Jennifer, and son Anthony J. “AJ”, both of Worcester.  Both Kathy and Tony were deeply involved in and volunteered countless hours to the Special Olympics.  They were devoted supporters of The Seven Hills Foundation, where you would often find Kathy advocating for individuals’ civil rights and with her daughter  Jennifer volunteered for many years at Seven Hills Bingo Night.

Auntie Kathy could always be depended on to deliver her chocolate chip cookies, Jell-O squares, almond cake, monkey bread or mini cheesecakes to every family event.  Determining whether Kathy was in the neighborhood was never a problem as her third-grade-teacher’s voice could be heard for blocks around!

The family is forever indebted to the kind, professional staff at both Christopher Heights and Christopher House.

Kathy’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 1st with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street.  There are no calling hours.  Masks are required.  Burial next to Tony will follow in St. John’s cemetery.  In lieu of flowers friends and family are entreated to send contributions to The Seven Hills Foundation at 81 Hope Avenue.  The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
