Korpo Washington

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Korpo Marly Washington, aged 57, who entered the eternal rest of the Lord on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. Korpo Marly Washington is survived by her four children: Daniel, Paul, Saralyn, and Comfort, as well as her stepsons Eric and Flomo. She also leaves behind many cherished family members and friends.

She was born on May 4th, 1966, into a humble, rural Liberian family. Korpo, along with her numerous brothers and sisters, attended William V.S. Tubman High School before their lives were disrupted by the civil war that ravaged West Africa. Through unwavering faith, determination, remarkable personal strength, and support from family, she secured passage as a refugee to the United States in 1999, accompanied by her four children and others. In her new setting, Korpo pursued a nursing degree and began her career as a nurse. She worked tirelessly to provide for her children and herself, constantly striving to strengthen and preserve her family. Korpo's devotion to God, family, love for music, and commitment to serving her neighbors defined her life.

Korpo approached every challenge in life with faith, boldness, resilience, and determination. She was an active member in several communities, including the Northeastern Liberian Community, the National Alumni Association of Laboratory Tubman High School, and the regional faith-based community of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her presence, love, and contributions enriched the lives of those around her and her absence will be poignantly felt by multitudes.

Korpo will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Viewing hours will be held from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by the funeral services promptly from 12 pm to 1 pm at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, located at 370 Plantation St., Worcester. The procession to Hope Cemetery, where Korpo will be interred, will then take place. In the evening, a memorial dinner will be held at the Worcester LDS chapel, situated at 67 Chester St, Worcester, MA 01605, from 5 pm to 8 pm. This gathering will provide an opportunity for all to share their cherished memories of and shared experiences with Korpo. May the soul of Korpo Marly Washington rest in eternal peace and grace and may we all be reunited one day in a fullness of joy and rejoicing.
