Kristaq Koraqi

Kristaq Koraqi, 78 of Worcester formerly of Hocisht, Albania, passed away Wednesday, May 15^th, 2019 with his loved ones gathered at his side after a brief illness.

Kristaq was born in Hocisht Korce, Albania, one of three sons of Petro and Ulia (Plaku) Koraqi.  Educated and raised in Albania, Kristaq, worked as a mechanical engineer/Chief Operating Office on the utility grid, water supply and infrastructure for the Albanian Government throughout the country many years before retiring and moving to Athens Greece in 1994.  In 2011, Kristaq and his wife, reunited with their children in the United States. He has lived here ever since.      

Kristaq is survived by his wife of over 42 years Sashenka (Gega) Koraqi; his two children, Chris Koraqi, Sabina Koraqi and her husband Michail Gianitsanakis all of Worcester; a brother, Jorgo Koraqi in Albania; the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Despoina; nieces, nephews and extended family in the United States, Greece and Albania.   A brother, Sotir Koraqi passed away in January of this year.    

Koraqi was a member of St Spyridon’s Greek Orthodox Church.  He was an enthusiastic fisherman. Enjoyed watching, Soccer, Formula One racing and boxing.  Most of all in his life was his family.  His wife children and granddaughter meant everything to him.  The proudest and happiest moments in life were those spent with them.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Monday, May 20^th from 4pm to 7pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.   His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 21^st from the funeral home with a procession to St Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 102 Russell St, where his funeral service will be held at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
