Kristin H. DeSimone, 86, of Worcester, passed peacefully on December 22, 2022, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Samuel R. DeSimone, and sisters Karin and Ingrid. She is survived by her daughter, Kristin, three sons, Sam Jr., John and Philip, sister Helga, eleven grandchildren, one great grandson, many nieces, nephews, and much extended family.
Born in Stralsund, East Germany, as a child Kristin and her family fled to West Germany in the aftermath of World War II. She lived in Koblenz through her teenage years. While aboard a German commuter train in 1957, Kristin serendipitously met her future husband, who was vacationing in Europe. It was love at first sight. They married shortly thereafter, moved to Worcester(Sam’s hometown), and lived happily together for the rest of their lives.
Kristin devoted her selfless energies to raising her children and supporting her husband as he pursued his career as a prominent Worcester attorney. She opened her heart to her children’s friends, who considered her a “second mom” and fondly recall her generosity and homecooked Italian meals. As grandchildren arrived, she developed a special and endearing relationship with each one.
In her free time, Kristin enjoyed observing and photographingnatural beauty, especially on walks along the beach near her house on Cape Cod, in Worcester-area parks, and in the deserts of Sedona, Ariz., her favorite vacation destination. As a long-time member of the Worcester Country Club, she often hostedfamily events, creating many fond memories. She was a voracious reader; in recent years Kristin donated hundreds of her annotated books to the community. Finally, she loved to travel and experience different cultures, befriending people around the world.
The DeSimone family extends heartfelt thanks for the kind support provided by the many friends, caregivers, and medical professionals at Briarwood Continuing Care Community Center, St. Vincent Hospital, Always Best Care Senior Services, Brookhaven Hospice and Mercadante Funeral Home.
At Kristin’s request, she will be buried beside her husband at a private graveside service.
