Lawrence R. Charbonneau, 80 of Holden, MA, formerly of Cohoes, New York, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021 at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester.
Lawrence was born in Cohoes, New York on July 10, 1940 a son of the late Lawrence J, and Margaret (Beaupre) Charbonneau, Sr. He was a graduate of Keveny Academy in Cohoes where he excelled in basketball and was a fixture in the local newspapers throughout high school, something he was extremely proud of. Lawrence worked as a foreman for Bendix Corporation for over 30 years retiring in 1994. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union for many years.
Lawrence enjoyed bowling and was a member of a bowling league called “The Funsters” for over 50 years and served as the league’s secretary for 12 years. He was very successful at bowling and received many awards. Lawrence also enjoyed vacationing in Florida with his wife and later after her passing, taking Tropical cruises with friends.
Lawrence’s wife of 34 years, Barbara Jean (Smith) Charbonneau passed away in 1996. He is survived by two daughters, Stacey Grossi and her husband Clemente of Holden, MA with whom he lived and Shelley Curley and her husband Robert of Greenwich, NY; four grandchildren, Marc Grossi and his wife Heather, Anthony Grossi and his girlfriend Melynda Hughes, Alexander Grossi and his fiancé Julia Frye all of Holden and Alexis Curley of Greenwich, NY; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a sister Joan Durocher.
A graveside service for Lawrence will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11:30 am in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford, NY. At Dad’s request there are no calling hours.
