Leonard H. Hazzard, Jr.

Leonard H. “Butch” Hazzard, Jr., 72, of Worcester, a member of the Nipmuc Nation, passed away on Thursday, April 7, Twenty-Twenty-Two, at UMass Hospital in Worcester.

“Lenny”, as he is also commonly known, is survived by his loving wife, who he married on Valentine’s Day 1985, Esther (Verheyen) Hazzard; six children, Sonya Farrow and her husband Kenny, Stephanie Pye and her husband Adrian, Victoria Hazzard, Krystal Bauman and her husband Clifford, Sean Turner and his wife Ryan, and Bryan Turner and his significant other Amanda; three sisters, Nellie Butler and her husband Charles, Nancy Charleston and her husband John, and Licine Carter and her husband Robert; twenty-four grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Wendie Hazzard in 2014, by a grandchild, Jovanni in 2001, and by two sisters, Paula Rucker and Barbara Nwalozie.  Leonard was born in Worcester son of the late, Leonard H. and Patricia (Toney) Hazzard, and has lived here all his life.  

Lenny worked for forty-two years, serving the City of Worcester and her people, in the sanitation department of the DPW, before retiring in 2009.  He was devoted to his family and spending quality time with them.  He loved cars, especially his Cadillac’s; he enjoyed “people watching” playing cards, fishing, and “The Wonder of It All”.

Calling Hours will be on Thursday, April 14, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  His Funeral Service will be on Friday, April 15, at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
