Libera (Troio) Champagne

Libera (Troio) Champagne, 95, a lifelong resident of Worcester passed away with her loved ones gathered at her bedside Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

Libera was born in Worcester, the daughter of Italian immigrants Matteo and Camille (Bisceglia) Troio.  Raised in Worcester, Libera became the matriarch of her family. She made sure they were well cared for, had a strong faith, and was well educated.   She also worked more than 15 years in the food service department of Clark University, before retiring.   

Libera is survived by her two daughters, Dianne L. Sturniolo and her husband Michael of Marlborough, Cheryl C. Derr and her husband John of Worcester: nine grandchildren, William and his wife Erin, John and his wife Lisa, Mary, Cherilyn and her husband Joseph, Joseph and his wife Brittanie, Laurie and her husband Chris, Lisa and her husband Casey, Michael, and his wife Marcey; 13 great grandchildren; Several nieces, nephews and extended family members.   A grandson, Mark Sturniolo, brother Leonardo Troio and a sister, Laura Dechiaro predeceased her. 

A vibrant woman, with a huge heart, giant smile, and strong faith, who cherished her family, and found greatest moments in her life she spent with her daughters and grandchildren.  Holidays, birthdays, family dinners and anytime she could be involved.   Libera also enjoyed, travel, fashion, attending church when she could, the Mt Carmel Golden Years, and the friendships she made at Colony Village. 

A period of visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16^th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am followed by a prayer service in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.   Burial will follow in St John’s Cemetery.
