Loretta (Martone) Sclafani

November 25, 1944 — December 5, 2019

Loretta (Martone) Sclafani, 75 of Worcester, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s hospital on Thursday, December 5, 2019 surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born and raised in Worcester to the late Nicholas and Rose (Tortorino) Martone, Loretta “Lola” graduated from Commerce High School in 1963 and was a member of several clubs and committees. A lifelong resident of the city, Loretta was known for her larger-than-life personality and infectious laughter. She began a 55-year hairdressing career at the age of 19 where she started working at Ann Niche  and Sonia's Wig Salon. With her entrepreneurial spirit and substantial patron following, Loretta ventured out on her own to form several salons, including Accurzio’s Victorian Salon on Richmond Avenue in Worcester and Loretta’s Hair Salon. She loved being around people and making them laugh (often at her own expense) and they loved her back in return.

Loretta loved to travel and vacationed at several tropical islands as well as made many trips abroad during her lifetime. She also spent nearly every weekend in the summers with family and friends at her campsite in Old Orchard Beach, ME. An avid and exceptional cook, Loretta enjoyed preparing meals for her beloved family and friends and bringing people together. Anyone who came into Loretta’s home never left without having something to eat or taking something with them.

A devout member of Our Lady of Loreto Church in Worcester, Loretta leaves behind her legacy; a son Jason Aboody and his wife Belinda of Huntersville, NC; a daughter Nicole (Aboody) Milbier of Worcester; and the greatest joy and light of her life, her granddaughter, Arabella. She also leaves her beloved sisters Marilyn and her husband Ronald Kanerva of West Boylston; Sandra Penny and her husband Robert of Worcester; and Debra Martone of Dudley. She also leaves her sister-in-law Mary Grace Martone of Worcester; brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Ovian of Charlton, MA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Loretta is predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 39 years, Accurzio “Cuzo” Sclafani, her former husband Paul Aboody, Jr., and siblings Anthony Martone, June Leonard, Marie Ovian, John Martone, and Ernest Martone who passed away Sunday, December 1st

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Monday, December 9th 2019 from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be celebrated Tuesday, December 10th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd., where her Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am.
