Lucy J. (Armenti) Cariglia, 92, of Worcester, passed away peacefully with the family she cherished gathered at her bedside. Lucy is reunited in heaven with her two sons, Perry Cariglia who passed in 1970 and Attorney Dean Cariglia who passed in 2021, and other family members.
Lucy was born in Worcester, one of 14 children of Giuseppe and Angelina (Bodinizzo) Armenti. She grew up surrounded by family, in a three-decker on Lincoln St. in Worcester, and on June 14, 1952, married the ‘Love of her Life” Martin M. Cariglia. They then began their 72 year marriage and love affair of life, faith, family and community, in the Grafton Hill neighborhood of Houghton Street. Lucy also worked over 40 years for her sister and brother in law at the Parkway Diner serving guests with a smile and service.
Lucy is survived by her love, retired Worcester Police Officer, Marty; her three devoted children, Martin J. Cariglia and his partner, Mary Pace of Dennisport, Joseph Cariglia of Worcester, and Angela Naples and her husband Mark of Rutland; 11 grandchildren who were a major part of Lucy’s life and lovingly called her “Lulu”, Marty, Tricia, Joseph, Gianna, Perry, Nicholas, Arianna, and Alexander Cariglia, Christopher, Cameron and Matthew Naples; two great grandchildren, Joella, Blakely Lucy; a sister in law, Norma Armenti and brother in law, Anthony “Tony” Dangelo; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her two sons and parents, six brothers, Ralph, Peter, John, Patsy, Charles and Joseph Armenti, Jr, and seven sisters, Mary Carillo, Yolanda Cote, Gloria Lemanski, Ida Evangelista, Lena DiPilato, Katherine Foley and Rosemarie Boisseneau all predeceased her.
Lucy was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel/Our lady of Loreto Parish. Along with her husband, her children and grandchildren, they always came first in her life no matter what. She was the backbone of her family and remained devoted to them through life. She was a beautiful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; spending time with family and friends, family dinners, caring for and having her grandchildren surrounding her. She loved to cook, her Italian delicacies, banana breads and aromas emanating from her kitchen were legendary. Everyone was welcome and no one entering her home left hungry. Lucy truly believed that faith, family and friends were the most important parts of life and had room in her heart for everyone she met. She was very generous with her love, time and resources, and helped anyone she could. Her unwavering faith kept her grounded and helped her through life's challenges. Lucy’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts but her loving and caring soul will not be forgotten
The Cariglia family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care and comfort they gave to our mother during a difficult time.
