Lydia (Cassanelli) Law

October 6, 1929 — December 10, 2021

Lydia A. (Cassanelli) Law, 92 an over 70-year resident of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully Friday, December 10, 2021, with loved ones gathered at her bedside.

Lydia was born in Worcester, the last of ten children of Italian immigrants, Sergio, and Madeline (Papagni) Cassanelli.  She then met and in 1952, married the “love of her Life” John Law. They moved to Shrewsbury and spent the next 54 years, devoted to each other, faith, family, and the Plainfield neighborhood until John passed away on January 29th, 2006.

Lydia is survived by two sons, Keith A. Law and his wife Amy of Brookfield, Joseph J. Law, Sr. and his wife Heather of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a daughter in law, Mary Law of Bourne; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, a son Albert J. Law, brothers, Peter, Maurice, Anthony, and Leo Cassanelli and sisters, Rose DiPadua, Ida Robbio, Elvera Albertson, Helen Rissotti and Virginia Cassanelli, all predeceased her.

Lydia was a member of St Anne’s Church, the Shrewsbury Towers association, Shrewsbury friends and St Annes Golden age. The matriarch of her family, Lydia spoiled her children and especially her grandchildren with love, great Italian cooking and caring dedication.  Her greatest life memories were those spent with family around her during special occasions and he holidays.  John and Lydia lived in a loving Italian neighborhood in Shrewsbury where everyone knew each other, was welcomed in every home, and celebrated the holidays together.

A period for calling hours will be held Thursday, December 16th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. followed by a procession to St Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd where her funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am. Burial will follow in Mt View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Activities fund, of Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, 47 East Main Street
