Maria Gonzalez

Maria “MAMA” (Torres) Gonzalez, 70 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Christopher House surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico where she graduated high school. She later received her certification in cosmetology where she worked for many years. Maria came to Worcester 39 years ago. She loved being with her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Loved cooking for family and friends, play bingo, the casino, shopping not for her but for everyone else because she was just such an amazing caring and giving person that loved seeing smiles on everyone’s face. Most of all she was a woman of strong Faith in God.

“My mother was a “Guerrera” fought Cancer twice and suffered four strokes and still overcame them with a smile. Her beautiful smile will forever live in my heart. She loved being with me as well as I loved and cared for her like she was my baby. She was my rock as well as she was mines. You are another beautiful heavenly Angel by God’s side now. He will now take care of you and this brings me peace. I love you so much and forever Mami! your baby girl that loves you with all her might, Karen.”

Maria is survived by her husband Wenceslao “PAPA” Gonzalez; two sons, Angel and Alexis Gonzalez; two daughters, Karen Bueno and Evette Lugo all of Worcester; two sisters, Magaly and Wanda Torres both of Puerto Rico; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Maria’s funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 11 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Monday, January 21st from 5-8 pm in the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or you may make a donation in memory of Maria to a charity that supports cancer.
