Marin Abdelki, 92, of Worcester beloved mother, grandmother and sister and devoted wife, passed away surrounded by the family she loved, Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
Marin was born in Hasakah, Syria, one of 10 children of Bahdai and Chanima (Yousef) Abdelki. Raised and educated in Syria, Marin married Butros A. Lahdo. Together they began a 64-year marriage of faith, family, and love. They together with their children immigrated to the United States in 1990 and have lived in Worcester ever since.
Marin’s husband Butros passed away on February 7, 2018; She is survived by children, Rina Raheb and her husband Naim with whom she lived, Raid Lahdo and his wife Mouna in Syria; a son in law, Joseph Kalat-Malho in Canada; seven grandchildren she cherished and was so proud of, Peter, Rebal, Sheffie, Jamie, Kristen, Elliana and Paul; two great grandchildren Alanna and Joseph; four sisters, Angel Doumit, Evelyn Daher, Jozaphin Asfoura and Georgette Khoury; A brother, David Abdelki; sister in law, Freada Abdelki; many nieces, nephew, extended family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, two sisters, Janette Raheb and Wordant Miro and two brothers Eills and Anton Abdelki, all predeceased her.
Along with her husband, her children and grandchildren always came first in her life no matter what. She was the backbone of her family and remained devoted to them throughout her life. She was a beautiful person who was loved by all and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending time taking care of her family and taking care of her home. Her unwavering faith kept her grounded and helped her through life's challenges. Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts but her loving and caring soul will not be forgotten. “May her memory be eternal” Marin was a member of St Matthews Syrian church in West Roxbury and St Mary’s Syrian church in Shrewsbury.
Calling hours in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. will be held Friday night, July 23rd from 6 pm to 8 pm. Her funeral will be held Saturday, July 24, from the funeral home with a procession to St Mary’s Syrian Orthodox Church, 1 Industrial Dr. Shrewsbury. where her Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances can be made to either, St Matthews Syrian Orthodox Church, 149 Park St, Boston, MA 02132, or St Mary’s Syrian Orthodox Church, 1 Industrial Dr. Shrewsbury.
