Martin E. “Fitzy” Fitzpatrick, 78, of Spencer, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the Hermitage Health Care Center in Worcester.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Carmella “Dolly” H. (Panarelli) Fitzpatrick.

Fitzy is survived by his sons, Martin Fitzpatrick and his wife Karen of Spencer and Sean Fitzpatrick and his husband Peter Juris of Provincetown; three grandchildren, Hannah Rose Fitzpatrick, Alaina Carmella Fitzpatrick, and Jack Martin Fitzpatrick; a dear friend and companion, Lisa Marie DiMauro; a sister-in-law, Beverly Panarelli; many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was predeceased by a brother, Neil Fitzpatrick and a sister, Mary Ellen (Fitzpatrick) Bradshaw. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Cornelius and Irene (Bradley) Fitzpatrick.

As a young man Fitzy enjoyed working beside his father driving the oil delivery truck for Fitzpatrick Oil Company.  He graduated from Worcester South High School, before serving his nation proudly in the United States Marine Corps.  Fitzy worked at Worcester Wire Company as a steel worker with the United Steel Workers Union, Local 2285.  He was then introduced to restaurant operations by working side by side with his wife at her family’s restaurant, The Italian Kitchen in Worcester.  Fitzy and Carmella then went on to open their own restaurant, Carmellas Italian Kitchen in Brookfield, which they operated with their sons and other family members for 27 years.

Fitzy enjoyed life on Thompson Pond in Spencer, boating and pulling the neighborhood kids water-skiing.  He was the consummate host at Carmellas and loved cooking and feeding others whether at his home or at his restaurant.  Fitzy spent several of his retirement years in the lakes region of New Hampshire enjoying time with family and friends.  He loved riding his Harley and his yearly Father’s Day adventures attending bike week in Laconia with his son Marty, brother Neil, cousins and friends.  Most of all he loved his family and his grandchildren for whom he was so proud.
