Mary T. Abdelmaseh, 71
WORCESTER- Mary T. "Marie" (Touma) Abdelmaseh, 71, of 1 Clarendon St. , a longtime dressmaker, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus after an illness.
Her husband, Albert Abdelmaseh, died several years ago. She leaves two sons: Camille S. "Cam" and Naser Nasrah , both of Worcester; a brother, Abdalah Touma of Tripoli, Lebanon ; a sister, Georgette Najm of Shicka, Lebanon; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A brother, Ibrahim Touma of Lebanon, and two sisters, Helany Falah of Tripoli and Maggie Dalak of Lebanon, died before her. She was born in Tripoli, daughter of Georges and Sophia (Deek) Touma, and moved to the United States in 1950. She lived 48 years in Worcester.
Mrs. Abdelmaseh was a dressmaker for Marcus and McGinnis Companies in Worcester before retiring.
She was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and a member and past president of its Ladies Society; a member and past president of the Mahiety Society; and a member of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. She was a member and volunteer for ALSAC (American Lebanese Syrian Association for Children) and formerly served the church in assisting Syrian Lebanese immigrants with adjusting after settling in the area.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, and 9 to 10 a.m Friday, Jan. 21, at the church. Trisagion Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. during the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St., Worcester, MA 01604.
