Mary A. Leahy

Mary A. (Santoro) Leahy, 94, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her loving husband of 61years, Vincent P. Leahy, and her devoted son, John V. Leahy, and his wife Theresa of Auburn, as well as several cousins from the Santoro family. Mary also leaves her nephews and nieces: John F. Leahy, Mark DiBenedetto, Rev. David Carr, Noreen Giammalvo and Julie Carr. She was predeceased by a niece, Mary Ellen Berg, and two nephews, Joseph Leahy, Jr., and Vincent DiBenedetto.
Mary was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Gennaro and Antonetta (Paulino) Santoro and lived in Clinton for many years. She was a 1942 graduate of Clinton High School and later graduated from Worcester Business College.
Mary was a Legal Secretary for many years before retiring in 2000 from the firm then known as Bourgeois, Dresser & White.
Mary and her husband Vincent lived in Auburn for over 40 years. They developed close friendships with many neighbors and enjoyed spending time with them, their children and their grandchildren.
Mary was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s in Auburn. She was a member of the Emerald Club. She particularly enjoyed game nights with her informal club of friends. Mary loved to cook and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends.
The family expresses its gratitude to the kind and compassionate caregivers and staff in the Harmony Unit at Notre Dame du Lac.
Mary’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 9, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St., with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Visiting hours to celebrate and honor Mary’s life will be held on Friday, February 8, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Notre Dame du Lac – Harmony Unit, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
