Mary R. Markey, 105, of Bellingham, MA, and longtime former resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2022, at Milford Regional Hospital. Born March 24, 1917, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Marion (Flynn) Markey.
Although Mary never married or had children, she had a wonderful circle of extended family and friends she considered her family. For the last 8 years of her life, she lived with her loving cousin Gail Wiebers and her husband Richard. Mary thought of Gail’s children Douglas Wiebers (Faith Carosi), Bradley Wiebers (Nicole) and Brittany Palmer (Chris) and grandchildren Nathan, AJ, Trey, Brandon, Natalie, and Jessica, as her own. She also leaves behind her godson Paul Johnson (Elaine) and his children Brian and Michael, of FL, cousin Judy Carlson of Holden, and special friend Claire Leonard of North Smithfield, RI. Mary will be dearly missed by her lifelong “adopted daughter” and special friend Donna Brady and her husband Richard, of Worcester. She was predeceased by her cherished cousin Ellen Arsenault and a dear friend, Jane Healey.
Mary graduated from North High School in Worcester and continued her education at Fairchild Business School. After business school, she worked for the City of Worcester in the clerk’s office for 38 years. She retired in 1980 as Head Clerk. Mary loved life and being surrounded by people, and she especially enjoyed lunches with friends, phone conversations, “Teatime,” and visits with children. When she needed rest, she could be found napping in her favorite chair. Mary was a devout Catholic who watched Mass and prayed the Rosary multiple times daily.
