Mary K. Oswald

Mary K. (LaBelle) Oswald, 92 of Naples, FL, formerly a longtime resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2023 at UMass Memorial surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Frank A. and Hazel F. (Campbell) LaBelle. She grew up in Worcester where she graduated from Commerce High School. Mary worked for many years as a purchasing agent for Lodding Engineering, later known as Kadant before her retirement.  She was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, the Massachusetts Realtors Association and NE Family Camper’s Association.  Mary was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, enjoyed sewing and camping but most of all, the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.  She spent many years in York Beach ME where they eventually built their retirement dream home on the Nubble.

Mary’s husband of 49 years, Andrew R. Oswald passed away on May 12, 2002.  She is survived by her children, Deborah Kennett and her husband Alex of Thompson, CT, Donna McLaughlin and her husband Thomas of Charlton and Diane Gillespie of Auburn.  She was affectionately known as “Nana” to her five beloved grandchildren, Daniel Hammond of Orofino, ID Thomas Hammond of Thompson, CT, Allison McLaughlin of Worcester, Ryan McLaughlin of North Grosvenordale, CT and Emily Gillespie of Auburn and seven great grandchildren. In addition, she leaves a brother, Ronald A. LaBelle, and a sister Hazel Martel and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Francis LaBelle, a sister, Carol Shea, and a son-in-law Joseph Gillespie.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 4-7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.   Services for Mary will be held on Saturday, April 22^nd with a procession from the funeral home to Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.  Burial will follow in St. John’s cemetery, Worcester.
