Mary P. (Quigley) Pignataro, 63, of Shrewsbury, a devoted wife, mother and friend passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 surrounded by the ones she loved after a valiant battle with cancer.
Mary was born in Windsor, Vermont the daughter of the late Melvin and Grace (Daudlin) Quigley. She graduated from Windsor High School and earned her associates degree in nursing from Burbank School of Nursing. Mary then began her career as a Nurse working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Worcester State Hospital and other medical facilities working many years before retiring. In 1992, Mary married the “love of her life” James F. Pignataro, they settled in Shrewsbury to raise their family with love and dedication.
Mary is survived by her husband of 29 years, James; their daughter Anne Marie Martinez and her husband CJ of Shrewsbury, three siblings, John Quigley, Margaret Farewell and her husband Alan all of West Boylston, Cathy Hebert of Portland, Maine; brothers and sisters in law, Anthony Pignataro and his wife Amy Beth of New York, Robert and Michael Pignataro of Shrewsbury; Many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. Her father and mother in law, Anthony and Ann Marie Pignataro and brother in law, Robert Hebert predeceased her.
To Mary, her family was everything, they always came first in her life, no matter what. She was always ensuring they were taken care of and had the support and guidance they needed. She was a beautiful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; spending vacations in Truro, her cats, Lighthouses, puzzles, cooking, especially during the holidays, Christmas eve and Christmas day which were her favorites. She was a long-time Town of Shrewsbury election official and a member of St Anne’s Church. By trade she was a devoted nurse who took great care of her patients with love and care. However, Mary’s true passion was being a mother. She was at every sporting event, dance recital, girl scout meeting and school event. Mary’s unwavering determination not to give up kept her grounded and helped her through life's challenges to the end. Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts but her infectious laugh and love for others will not be forgotten.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Tuesday, June 22, from 3 to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, June 23rd at St Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Shrewsbury where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial in Mt. View Cemetery will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary Pignataro Memorial Scholarship Fund which will be awarded to Grafton High School seniors who are entering a nursing or a medical health related field program in college.
