Mary A. (Verdini) Pratt, 93, a resident of Shrewsbury for over sixty years, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 27, 2018, in her residence at Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester. Her loving husband of nearly sixty-four years, Alvin Pratt, predeceased her on April 1, 2014.
She is survived; two daughters, Paula P. Renkas and her husband Richard of Franklin and Sandra P. Stratton of Derry, New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Brett Stratton and his fiancé Caitlin of Goffstown, NH, Peter Stratton and his wife Brenna of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Jaclyn Stratton of Appleton, Maine; a great grandson, Silas Stratton of Fort Wayne; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters, Arthur, Carroll, Reno, and Raymond Verdini, Eva Polissack, Irene Locantore, Julia Ferri, and Dorothy Glenn. She was born in Worcester on September 12, 1924, daughter of the late Henry and Ida (DellaSanta) Verdini. She graduated from Commerce High School and lived in Worcester for many years.
Mary married the love of her life, Alvin in May of 1950, together they settled in Shrewsbury, where they raised their family. She retired from Bee Plastics after years of dedicated service, having previously worked at GE Telechron in Worcester. Her early work life was at her family business H. Verdini & Sons Dairy, where she learned the value of a good day’s work and the importance of dedication in all you do. She was a member of Saint Anne’s Church and the church women’s club. She was a dedicated volunteer at the former Calvary Retreat Center, and enjoyed sewing, needle work, baking, and travel with her husband and family.
Mary’s family would like to thank the wonderful “angels” at Dodge Park Rest Home that made her stay with them, for the past six years, a comfortable home-like experience. Their care for Mary was amazing and loving and is appreciated immensely. A thank you is also extended to the kind people at Notre Dame Hospice, who made sure Mary was comfortable and cared for with the utmost dedication.
Calling hours for Mary will be held on Monday morning, July 2, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester; then departing in procession for a 12 Noon Funeral Mass at Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Road (Route 9 east), Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
