Mary Jane (Hargrove) Poirier, passed away surrounded by the ones she loved Sunday, November 21, 2021 from complications of C.O.P.D. She was 69 years old.
Mary Jane spent 25 years working for the City of Worcester in the City Clerk’s Office; She previously worked for Rovezzi’s Restaurant on Main St. Mary Jane spent a lot of her free time creating. She was a craftsperson to the fullest extent-there wasn’t much she couldn’t do. She kept flourishing gardens, was a culinary artist, cooking and baking sought after foods and desserts, and knitted stunning pieces that will be family keepsakes for generations to come. She was an avid reader and a logophile, she spent much of her adult life enjoying the beaches of Maine, collecting knick knacks that were as distinctive as her and caring for, babysitting, and spending her happiest moments in life with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved and devoted son, Jeremiah Poirier to whom Mary Jane will be forever grateful and his wife Melissa, her daughter Corinna Poirier who resides with the loving Nelson family and is cared for by Chantelle Nelson whom Mary Jane referred to as “my Anne Sullivan,” her father Theodore Hargrove and sister, Tracy Hargrove, both in Maine, her brothers, Christian and Jonathan , and sister, Samantha; her dearest friend Connie Dechenes; and three grandchildren Megan Dickinson, Katherine Poirier, Logan Poirier, and a great-grandson Luke Dickinson. She is predeceased by her husband Richard Poirier, grandson Jonas Poirier, and her mother Barbara (O’Brien) Hargrove and brother Charles. Although she was born in Worcester, most of Mary Jane’s childhood was spent in New London, CT where the Ocean was her backyard.
A period of calling hours will be held Friday, November 26th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a prayer service at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas Street Worcester or the Autism Research Foundation, 72 East Concord Street # R1014, Boston, MA 02118
