We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father, Matteo Travaglio, who passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Matteo was born in Vieste, Foggia Italy to Giovanni and Maria. Under the guidance of his father, he became a successful furniture maker. In 1968, he and his wife Antonia set out for a better life and came to America. Unable to find a job as a carpenter, Matteo became a sheet metal worker and worked his first job at Arduini, where he made lifelong friends. His sheet metal career continued until his eventual retirement from Fabrico Inc. Gardening and winemaking were two of his favorite hobbies. He couldn’t wait for his wine to be ready each year so he could share it with family and friends. Matteo lived by the theory that a stranger was simply a friend he had not met. Even during hard times, he was always smiling. Family was everything to him; he was a kind, dependable father and worked hard to ensure his girls had the best life. He is predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Antonia of thirty-nine years, and his brother Gregorio. He is survived by his two daughters, Maria T. DiLullo and her husband Michael of Feeding Hills, MA and Donatella Travaglio of Worcester; three cherished grandchildren, Michael, Mia, and Matthew DiLullo; as well as his brother, Michael and his wife Rosanna; and his sister-in-law, Tomasina Travaglio. Additionally, many nieces, nephews, and friends. We would like to especially thank Richie, Dorry, Jenna, Tashenna, and John for their kindness and compassion. Calling Hours will be on Monday, December 4, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
