Matthew "Matt" Gentile

January 10, 1950 — January 3, 2020

Matthew R. Gentile, 69 of Worcester passed away at home on Friday, January 3, 2020 with his family by his side.
Matt was born in Brooklyn, New York on January the 10th, 1950.
Matt is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda (Bulak) Gentile; his two sons, Matthew R. Gentile Jr. of Worcester and Jeffrey Gentile of Leominster; two brothers, Michael Gentile, Jr. and his fiancée Barbara Cantwell of Shrewsbury and Mark Gentile and his wife Maryanne of Worcester; a grandson, Matthew R. Gentile, III; Brothers-in-law, Richard and Joanne Bulak of Shrewsbury and William Bulak of Maine. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Madeleine Gentile of West Barnstable; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Matthew was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Margaret (Defazio) Gentile, Sr.
Matt attended North High School and served in the Air National Guard. He owned and operated Gentiles Bakery for over 40 years, a business that was started by his grandfather in 1927, followed by 3 generations. Matt was the Bass player in a popular 1960’s rock band, “The New Breed". They were a regular at The Comic Strip in Worcester. Matt and his wife enjoyed traveling the world to places like Tahiti, Germany, China, Hawaii to name a few, but Florida was their favorite place. He was a master scuba diver, muscle car and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed kayaking and mountain biking as well.
Matt was also a member of the Post 3, Italian American War Veterans in Worcester.
The Gentile family would like to thank Dr. Gultawatvichai, “Dr. G” and the entire Oncology Department at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester for the compassionate care they provided to Matt. Thank you Jodi. We would also like to thank all our friends and family for their support.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Sunday, January 12th from 12 pm to 2 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. followed by a prayer service. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105
