Maureen E. (Shea) Legay, 83 of Worcester, passed after a period of declining health at St. Mary’s Health Care Center.
Maureen was born in Bronx, New York, a daughter of the late Irish Immigrants Dennis and Elizabeth (Lynch) Shea. She worked as a medical secretary in the cardiology and nuclear medicine departments for St. Vincent’s Hospital for 51 years, a job she loved before her retirement and later volunteered there for many years after that. Maureen lived most of her life in Shrewsbury and Worcester. She loved traveling to New York City, Gloucester, and New Hampshire for concerts, Broadway shows and relaxing on the beach.
Maureen’s leaves her husband of 47 years, William L. Legay; a brother, Dennis Shea of Worcester; two sisters, Kathleen Shea of Worcester and Joanne Fitzgibbons of Yarmouth. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Maureen’s husband would like to extend a grateful thank you to Kevin and Tracy Greene for coming to their aid when they needed the help as well as St. Mary’s Healthcare Center for the excellent care Maureen received.
A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 10:30-11:00 am with a memorial service immediately at 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Townsend, MA. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making a donation in Maureen’s name to a No Kill Animal Shelter of your choice.
