Marie Jeanne (Leo) Louis-Charles, the daughter of Marc Antoine and Jeannette (Noel) Leo was born in Camp-Perrin, Haiti on January 31,1964. She was raised and educated in Haiti. Marie-Jeanne earned two bachelor’s degrees in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and began her career in 1987 as a French and Kreyol teacher in different schools. She received two master’s degrees too: one in French as a foreign language and a second in management of education and training organizations. She was a professor and vice president at the University Notre Dame, Haiti for 10 years.
Marie-Jeanne was married to Serge Felix Louis-charles for 29 years. She had three children, her twin daughters, Rejeane Louis-Charles, and Sergine Louis-Charles; and her son, Stanley Louis-Charles. She had two brothers, Gardy Léo and Fedner Léo; and one sister, Suzele Léo Charles; a granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, both here and in Haiti.
Marie-Jeanne was a woman of deep catholic faith, a member and active volunteer in different church in Haiti. She loved teaching and seeing the children succeed. She was very proud of her success in education. Marie-Jeanne also loved being around family and friends, dancing to konpa and zouk. Holidays, birthdays, and special occasions were very special to her.
In 2019, She was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery and treated in Haiti. Unfortunately, in November of last year, she became very ill. After many tests, the physician found out that the cancer came back and spread in different areas in her body. She fought very hard those past few months but unfortunately the disease won over. She passed away Thursday, June 29th, 2023, with her daughters around her.
The world has lost a loving and wonderful wife, mother, sister, auntie, grandmother, professor, colleague but heaven gained an angel. You will be truly missed! Until we meet again, we will always love you.
Period of gathering with the family will be held Friday, July 14th, 2023, from 5pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, July 15th at 12 noon in St Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd, Shrewsbury, MA
