Michael "Mike" Algieri, 71, of Worcester, MA, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 with family gathered at his side.
Michael was born on September 29, 1952, in San Giacomo, Prov of Cosenza, Italy, the son of Natale and Maria (Coschignano) Algieri. At the age of 5 in 1957, Michael's father immigrated his wife and children to the United States settling in Worcester's Grafton hill neighborhood where he grew up and graduated from Worcester Boys trade. Michael worked all his life as a truck driver in the transportation industry for many companies before retiring. Mike was known for his kindness and willingness to help others. He cherished his family deeply, dedicating much of his time and love to their wellbeing.
Michael leaves behind two children, Michael Algieri and Leticia Algieri; three grandchildren: four brothers, Carmine and his wife Nancy, Luigi and his wife Antonietta, Salvatore and his wife Antonietta, Frank and his wife Anna Maria; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Pasquale Algieri.
Michael adored his nieces and nephews and their children. His niece Angelica was a loving caregiver to him in his final days. The Algieri family would also like to thank the 7 ICU team at UMass Memorial Hospital, University Campus for the amazing care they provided which brought peace and comfort to Michael and the family.
A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, June 27th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Fr Jonathan Slavinskas a cousin will conduct his funeral service at 11 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Stroke Organization, 189 May Street, Worcester, Ma 01602 in memory of Mike. His generous spirit and warm heart will be dearly missed by all who knew him
