Michael “Coondog” Cooney, 56, of Framingham formerly Worcester, passed away unexpectedly at home Tuesday, January 4th, 2022.
Michael was born in Worcester, son of Daniel and Carol (Shilinsky) Cooney. Raised in Worcester, Michael married on December 2, 2018, to the love of his life, Aline Muniz De Souza. They moved to Framingham where they have lived the past 3 years. Michael worked as a machine programmer for Dentsply Corporation. In his earlier days, Michael boxed semi-professional in the Worcester area under the name “Coondog” winning several golden glove boxing awards.
Michael is survived by his wife Aline; his father, Daniel Cooney and his wife Karen of Auburn; his mother, Carol Cooney of Shrewsbury; his five siblings, Lisa Cooney and Daniel Cooney of Shrewsbury, Jesse Nye and Michelle Nye of Charlton and Douglas Cooney of Oxford; Many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Michael was an avid hunter, who loved hunting in Mass, New York, Rhode Island, as well as out west in Missouri, or anywhere he could, recording several deer and animal trophies. He notably had several articles of his trophies placed in Pope and Young Hunting Magazine. He also loved fishing, especially at the Cape Cod Canal. Michael traveled extensively to Brazil with his wife and soul mate Aline, whom he had planned to buy a home and start a family with in the near future. Throughout his life, Michael, faced, fought and overcame several challenges, he always faced each with a bright smile, winning attitude and positive outlook. He was an avid sports fan, notably football and the New England Patriots.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Thursday, January 13th from 3 pm to 5 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a prayer service at 5 pm. Immediately following the prayer service there will be a gathering to honor “Coondog” at the American Legion in Northboro, MA.
