Michael A. Salvidio, CPA, 83, a lifelong Worcester resident, business owner and former Chairperson and member of the City of Worcester Zoning Board of Appeals, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 10th, 2020.
Born and raised in Worcester, Michael was the son of Anthony and Rose (Vuona) Salvidio. Mike graduated from Commerce High School and furthered his education at the former Worcester Junior College (now Worcester State University), where he earned his degree in accounting, and at Portia Law School (now New England Law), where he earned his J.D. After completing his schooling, Mike followed in the footsteps of his father, joining him as a founding member of the respected accounting firm now known as Goulet, Salvidio & Associates, where Mike worked into his 70s.
While in high school, Michael began a romance with Elinor (Spain) that would last until Elinor passed away in January 2014. Mike and Elinor married in 1963 and settled in Worcester, where they raised their family and supported the community. Together, they were a dynamic duo known for working side-by-side, both in the office and in the kitchen. They enjoyed hosting countless holidays, feasts and fun gatherings for their family and many friends.
Mike was a humble and generous family man, a devoted friend and a dedicated public servant. Mike served as the longtime Chairperson of the Worcester Zoning Board of Appeals, and served on the Boards of Trustees of Quinsigamond Community College and the American Lung Association. He was also an active member and Colonel of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts and a member of the Selective Service Board.
With all of Mike’s accomplishments, he went about his life quietly making the lives of everyone who knew him better. In that way, he was a giant. He was profoundly generous, always quick with a smile and wink, and cared deeply for his family, clients, community and large circle of friends. As testament to a live well lived, Mike was cherished by those who knew him. When he was not in Worcester, he and his family enjoyed many fun-filled years on the shores and mountains surrounding Lake Winnipesaukee. Mike always took great pride in the achievements of his children, and of his grandchildren, to whom he was a doting grandfather. Mike was renowned for his culinary skills - especially for his infamous “Grampy Meatballs” and vinaigrette dressing. As his grandchildren grew up, Mike spent many hours in the kitchen with them grinding cheese and teaching them how to roll the perfect meatball. You never left Mike and El’s hungry.
Mike is survived by two children: his son Attorney Anthony J. Salvidio, II, Esq, his wife, the Honorable Donna Salvidio, and their children, Michael (also a CPA) and Katherine; his daughter Andrea J. Brewster, R.N., her husband, Lt. Col. (ret) Mark Brewster, and their children, Hannah and William; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. His sister, Bernice A. DeAngelis passed away in 2003.
Funeral services for Michael will be held Friday, February 14th with a mass celebrated at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Road. Entombment will follow in St. John’s Mausoleum, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Thursday, February 13th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in Mike’s name may be made to Notre Dame Academy, 425 Salisbury Street, Worcester, 01609.
