Michael J. Tessier, 71, of Worcester, passed away, unexpectedly on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at UMass Hospital.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Carol-Ann (Paldino) Tessier; a son, Scott M. Tessier of Worcester; a daughter, Michelle Rodriguez and her husband Robert of Winter Garden, Florida; three grandchildren Michael adored, Anthony Cruz, Brittany Tessier, and Marianna Cruz; a great granddaughter, Athena Cruz; five brothers, Mark Tessier of Maryland, Joseph Tessier, Thomas Tessier, and David Tessier, all of Worcester, and Daniel Tessier of Florida; three sisters, Barbara Laramie, Mary Tardy of Worcester, and Jane Tessier of Florida; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Tessier. Michael was born in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, son of the late, Ernest and Patricia (Bettauser) Tessier and moved to Worcester when he was 5 years old, after graduating Sacred Heart Academy, he attended Quinsigamond College in Worcester. In 1970 he was drafted by the United States Armed Forces and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served.
Michael enjoyed morning coffee with Ricky, Sonny, Nick, Billy, Mark, and Danny at McDonalds. Michael’s nickname from close friends and relatives was “Midnight Mike”. Michael enjoyed Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks at his home with his family and friends.
Michael and his family operated “Porto Bello” Restaurant on Shrewsbury Street for twenty-six years, before retiring and passing daily operations to his son. He was a member of the Eastside Improvement Club, VFW Post 3, and enjoyed horse racing and playing cards. Michael and Carol-Ann enjoyed summers at Saratoga, NY and winters at their home in Light House Point, Florida.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gillis Smith and his medical personnel of the BMT Unit at UMass Hospital on Lake Ave, for the wonderful care that was given to him.
Calling Hours will be on Friday, August 13, from 8:30 a.m. until a Funeral Service begins at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Entombment will follow in Saint John’s Mausoleum, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Saint John’s Food for The Poor, 20 Temple Street, Worcester.
