Michelena (Mazzone) Terlizzi, 100, a life long resident of Worcester, dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 with the family she loved gathered at her side.
Michelena was born in Worcester, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Oliveri) Mazzone. Raised in Worcester, she graduated from Commerce High School and married the love of her life Silvio Terlizzi. Michelena lived a life of faith, dedicated to raising their children with love. After 38 years of marriage, Silvio passed away in 1984. For many years Michelena worked alongside her husband operating Silvio’s Flamingo Restaurant on Shrewsbury Street. After retiring from the restaurant business, she accepted an administrative position at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Department of Student and Employee Health until her retirement.
Michelena is survived by her four children, Dr. Michael J. Terlizzi and his wife Elizabeth of Naples, Florida, Maria C. Johnston and her husband James of Holden, Joseph P. Terlizzi of Auburn and Linda M. Bonder and her husband Michael of Holden. She leaves 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her husband, a daughter in law Pamela Terlizzi, brother Jerry Mazzone, and sisters Antoinette Palermo and Carmela Santoro predeceased her.
Michelena was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress who frequently made all types of clothing for her extended family. A woman of deep faith, she enjoyed going to Mass and Novenas with her sisters. She also enjoyed entertaining her friends and family and cooking for holidays and special occasions. Her greatest joy was being with her family.
A period of calling hours will be held Saturday, March 16th from 12 -1 PM in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her funeral Mass will follow at 1 PM celebrated by family friend Monsignor Stephen Pedone. The burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery on Monday, March 18 at 9 AM.
In lieu of flowers , memorial remembrances in her name can be made to Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living Center, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
