Mikhail F Dimentberg

Mikhail Fedorovich Dimentberg, 86, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mikhail was born in Odessa, Ukraine and raised in Moscow, Russia, the son of the late Fedor Menasovich Dimentberg and Raisa Osipovna Khalfina. Mikhail earned a Ph.D. from Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) in Moscow, Russia. He then worked for several decades as a professor of mechanical engineering at Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), prior to moving his family to the United States.

After making the move, Mikhail worked as a professor of mechanical engineering for Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for 29 years, until his passing. Mikhail was an avid lover of classical music and chess, both of which he enjoyed extensively throughout his life. In his younger years, Mikhail was an active participant in water polo and volleyball competitions.

Mikhail was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Irina Akimovna Gyurdzhan-Dimentberg. Mikhail is survived by his daughter, Olga Gyurdzhan, and her husband Boris Osipian, of Shrewsbury; and his grandson, Arsen Gourjian, and his fiancée Kimberly, of Sturbridge.

Mikhail will be buried in Moscow along with his family. All services will be held privately. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
