Nicholas J. “Nick” Mazzamurro, 82 of Worcester a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother, died peacefully Thursday February 13, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Nick leaves his devoted wife of 61 years Leona T. (Dattis) Mazzamurro, daughters Leona A. (Lee) Joseph and her husband Steven of Shrewsbury. Donna Mazzamurro and her partner Jill Brooks of Plymouth, Wanda “Sis” Mazzamurro of Westborough and a son Nicholas Mazzamurro III and his husband Jeff French of Worcester. Nick was the proud grandfather to Rebecca Joseph and her fiancé Rocco Scala of Dennis Ma., Dr. Rachael Mazzamurro-Romer and her husband James Romer of Nashville, Abby Joseph of Shrewsbury, and 3 step grandchildren Kallie, Brenda, and Jay French.
Nick was the caring brother to his sisters, Frances Simone of Shrewsbury, and Anna Saucier and her husband Bernard of Worcester. Nick was predeceased by his broth and best friend Pasquale “Patsy” Mazzamurro, and two sisters Rose Monroe, and Carmella Olivieri. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Nick was born in Worcester son of the late Nicola and Antonetta (Izzi) Mazzamurro and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School and a press operator for the Wyman-Gordon Company plant in Grafton for 43 years before he retired. Nick was a member of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, the East Side Improvement Club, the Italian American Veterans Post #3, The Mount Carmel Golden Years Club, and the Gung Ho Club of Wyman-Gordon Retirees. He was a long-time member of the Greendale retired Men’s Club, and the Knights of Columbus.
Nick enjoyed working in his garden (his pride and joy) and around his home. He was a kind and gentle man that was beloved by his family/friends and all who knew him. Being with Leona and the kids meant the world to him. He will be sadly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him. The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice for their dedicated care and compassion shown to Nick and his family. The family would especially like to thank Nick's nephew Lenny for his companionship, assistance and kindness.
Calling hours to honor and remember Nick will be held on Sunday February 16 in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. from 3PM to 6PM. Family and friends are invited to gather at a funeral Mass Monday Morning at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary 25 Fales St. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice 120 Thomas St. Worcester, MA. 01608, or the Alzheimer’s Association at Alz.org.
