Nicola D'Andrea

November 8, 1941 — December 11, 2022

Nicola D'Andrea, 81, of Worcester, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 11, 2022, after being stricken at home.

Nicola ("Nick") was born in San Nicola, Italy, the son of Pietro and Antonetta (Rossetti) D'Andrea; he was raised and educated in Italy.  After serving in the Italian Army, Nick studied the intricate art of stone installation and masonry.  As a master brick/stone craftsman, he managed several large projects across New England, including the constriction of the Worcester Center Galleria in 1970. In September of 1965, He married the love of his life, Mary (Dellomo), before immigrating to the states in November of that same year; three years later, in 1968, Nick would become a U.S. Citizen.

Nicola was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Parish and its Knights of Columbus Counsel.   He enjoyed spending time at his home in Seabrook, New Hampshire, with family and friends, especially the grandchildren, whom he would take fishing, bike riding, or to the arcades at Hampton Beach. When he was home in Worcester, you could find him having coffee with friends at McDonald's, sitting on the couch cheering on an Italian soccer team (usually Juventus), or snacking on something delicious — and he'd always share.

Nick is survived by his wife, Mary; his two devoted daughters, Antoinette Poirier, wife of John Poirier, Jr. of Upton, and Ann-Marie Craig, wife of Richard Craig of Millbury; three grandchildren, Stephen Poirier of Upton, Matthew Craig of Worcester, and Caitlin Craig of Millbury, two step-grandchildren, Casey Craig of Hanson, and Michael Craig of Southbridge, a brother Giuseppe D'Andrea; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, both in the U.S. and Italy.  A sister, Orsolina Giaquinto, predeceased him.

A period of calling hours will be held Friday, December 16, 2022, from 10 am to 12 noon in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., followed by a procession to Our Lady of Loreto church, 37 Massasoit Rd, where his celebration of Christian Life Mass will be held at 12:30.  Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum.  Flowers may be sent, or memorial remembrances made to the American Heart Association.
