Norman W. Williams

Norman W. Williams, 93 of Boylston, died on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at UMass Medical Center.  He was born in Mount Vernon, NY, the son of the late Edward and Kate (Hill) Williams.

At an early age, Norman moved to Sharon, MA, where he graduated from high school.   He later enlisted in the U.S. Army 111^th Airbourne Paratroops where his tour of duty included eighteen months stationed in Japan.  In 1951, due to the Korean Conflict, Norman was called back into service and was then stationed at Fort Campbell, KY training troops.  After being discharged from the service, he was employed in various construction jobs and in 1971 he became the owner of Barcol Overdoors of Worcester which he operated until his retirement in 1993.

Norman was a member of the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale and his hobbies included ballroom and round dancing and traveling.

Norman leaves his wife, Marie C. (Chute) Williams; his son, Steven Williams and his wife Sarah of McMurray, PA; two stepsons, William Hamm of Bristol, CT and John Hamm and his wife Suzanne of Worcester; three grandchildren, David E. Williams, Laura (Williams) Moore and Emily (Williams) Hursh; a step-grandson, Jacob Hamm; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  Norman is predeceased by his first wife, Joan P. (Croft) Williams; a son, James Williams; two sisters, Marjorie Cooper and Valerie Burkig and a brother, Kenneth Williams.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 10-11 am with a funeral service to begin immediately at 11 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.  Burial with military funeral honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Boylston Firefighters Association, PO Box 634, Boylston, MA. 01505
