Patrick J McDonagh

Patrick J. McDonagh, 94, of Leland, NC and formerly of Worcester, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, with loved ones gathered at his side.

Born in Galway City, Ireland, to Michael and Elizabeth (McNamara) McDonagh, Patrick immigrated to the United States at the age of 21 after proudly serving at the end of WW 2 with the Royal Irish Fusiliers in Northern Africa.

He then settled in Worcester, where he raised his family. An adventurous man of many talents, Patrick worked for 40 years as a foreman at Wyman-Gordon, simultaneously working as a DJ at three radio stations and performing as a bagpiper in the band Jug O’ Punch. He was an avid runner and logged 7 miles a day from age 40 until he was almost 80 years old, in his quest to reach at least 1,000 miles per year.

Patrick was also a talented woodworker who specialized in making birdhouses. He started a business with his partner Julie which they continued after moving to North Carolina. While in North Carolina he shared his joy of Irish music by working as a Disk Jockey at various events.

Patrick leaves four devoted children: Paul M. McDonagh and his wife Cynthia of Westborough, Marybeth Fenuccio and her husband Raymond “Butch” of Worcester, Michael J. McDonagh and his wife Janet of Sandwich and Patrice A. Savage and her husband Michael of Old Orchard Beach, ME; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his cousins, Vincent and Everett Cox. He was predeceased by his former wife, Elaine (Rabidou), a son, Brian McDonagh, his longtime companion and life partner, Julianna Fewings, as well as many siblings in Ireland.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours Monday, August 8 from 10 am to 12 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, followed by a funeral service at 12 pm. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
