Paul L. Beriau, age 97, passed away peacefully in his home with his loving wife and children by his side on Friday, January 14, 2022
Paul was born on March 23, 1924, in Worcester, Massachusetts and was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Delia (Goyette) Beriau. He was a graduate from Worcester schools and lived most of his life in Worcester, moving to Holden in 2013. He attended seminary in Dunkurk, NY. His studies were interrupted with the outbreak of WWII when he returned home to assist his father with the family roofing business, J.A. Beriau and Son’s Inc which was established in 1913. He retired after a long and successful career and devoted his time to his wife and family.
Paul took great pride in his beautiful Canadian wife who he adored for 60 years, Yolande (Ste.Marie) and his five children; Paul G. Beriau and his wife Paula of Worcester, Peter Beriau and his companion Carol of Natick, Robert Beriau and his companion Alice of Worcester, Nicole Patricks and her husband Scott of Holden and Chantal Jhawar and her husband BJ of Windsor Ontario; three brothers, Wilford Beriau of Auburn, Joseph Beriau of Worcester and Theodore Beriau of West Harwich; three sisters, Marilyn Vramos of Florida, Marsha Morin of Denver, CO and Carol Kane of Florida; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by a grandson Matthew Beriau; two brothers, Clodold, and Bernard Beriau and two sisters, Rita Beriau and Lucille Chestnut.
He was known for his kindness, generosity, compassion, and thoughtful ways. He was strong, gentle, and steadfast, simple, and great, witty and found humor in most anything. He appreciated the beauty of architecture, nature, and landscapes. He was adventurous and spontaneous particularly when out for a drive and always ready for a great day trip. He also enjoyed some of the finer things in life such as a quality cognac with special family and friends, fine foods in particular the infamous “grandmama’s soup.” Many have referred to him as a “rare gem” and a “true gentleman.” He lived a long, rich, and beautiful life and will be missed by all who knew him.
The Beriau family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at Overlook Hospice for their care and involvement for the past 15 months, particularly Terri Millette and April Breitenfield. Also, to his private caregivers, Heather Palmer, Paula Pasquale, Carmen Mayo, Christine Schweighauser and Abenaa Degboe, our family could not have done this without them.
