Paul J. “PJ” Jarosevicz, 78, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, formerly of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021, in the loving embrace of his partner David.
PJ is survived by his partner of sixty years, David Marshall; brother-in-law, Donald Marshall of Douglas; sister-in- law, Eleanor Nelson and her husband Neal of Rutland; seven nieces and nephews, Debra O’Connell, John Marshall, James Marshall, Paul Larkin, Jennifer Nelson, Eric Nelson, and Jill Nelson; many friends and former clients. He was predeceased by his brother, Howard “Ronald” Mombourquet. Paul was born in Worcester, son of the late, Joseph A. and Jessie E. (Plouffe) Jarosevicz. He graduated from St. Casmir Grammar School and Commerce High School, later graduating from Brom’s Beauty Academy.
After graduating from Brom’s as a barber and cosmetologist, PJ became an instructor at the academy before opening Paul’s Barber Shop on West Boylston Street in Worcester, which he operated for ten years before becoming the “resident barber” at the former Rutland Heights State Hospital, until it closed in 1991. PJ then fulfilled a life-long dream of moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he continued as a barber for the next twenty years with RJ & Mates Salon in Davie, Florida, before retiring.
PJ’s family members were founding members of Saint Casmir Church and he was proud to have attended grammar school there; his strong faith was rooted in his upbringing there as well as being part of a strong Lithuanian community. PJ loved good food, music, and the arts, he loved to be surrounded by family and friends, and loved to immerse himself in different cultures by attending festivals throughout southern Florida.
He was an animal lover, and if he could have pulled it off, he would have had enough animals to make a farmer proud. He was an advocate for “no kill” animal shelters and loved his dog, Sophie.
Funeral Services for Paul will be held privately. He will be laid to rest beside his parents at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, a local “no kill” shelter, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
The family has entrusted Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel.
