Paula M. (Potenti) Waters, 67, a lifelong Worcester resident, devoted mother and grandmother passed away Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020. She was lost in a tragic car accident on route 20.
Paula was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Phillip and Helen (Mattson) Potenti. She graduated from North High and the health Science department of Becker College. She married Ronnie Waters, they settled in the Lakeview section of Worcester and began to raise a family. Ronnie left her side on January 5, 1999. Paula has continued to live a devoted life to her daughter, son in-law, grandsons and other loved ones. She was selfless and giving person, Paula worked as a home healthcare worker, bringing aid, joy, and comfort to those in her care. She was so dedicated to her patients, that Paula would go to those in need on her personal time to bring comfort and care. Notably, Paula was recognized with numerous employees of the year awards for her efforts.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Kristal Gurgone and her husband Salvatore of Worcester; her grandsons, who affectionately called her “Mimi Po” Ethan and Cooper; her two sisters, Bonnie Castellani, and Angela Westberg; a brother, Phillip Potenti, Jr, An Aunt and Uncle, Robert and Nancy Mattson; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and her many dear friends.
She was a doting grandmother to her grandsons, Paula’s greatest moments in life were those with them. She cherished the times she spent with them having sleepovers, playing in the pool, exploring, and just hugging them. Paula was an animal lover and animal rights proponent. Paula loved to cook for her friends and family, always creating arts and crafts, tending to her yard & garden and just being active. Paula was truly selfless and had a huge heart and giant smile. Paula had a keen sense of humor and a gift to always bring a laugh and smile to others. She will be sorely missed.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Wednesday, December 30th from 4 pm to 7 pm in THE MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. COVID restrictions of masks and social distancing are required. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 31st at 10:00 am in St John’s Church, 44 Temple Street. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Cat Connection, 289 Thompson Rd, Webster, MA 01570.
